American Zombie - Movie

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

American Zombie, due out in 2008, is a movie about zombies living in society.  Unlike like in Fido where the zombies are basically slaves, these zombies are “high functioning,” and participate in society.  They hold jobs, have hobbies and enjoy everything you and I do.

The movie seems to be shot documentary style, and focuses on the lives….er, uh, undead existence of what looks like four different zombies trying to make their way in San Fransisco as they learn about tolerance, identity, politics and the future of the human race.

Zombie Apocalypse?..Head to the Doomsday Seed Vault

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Hailed as the Noah’s Ark for securing biological diversity for future generations, the “Doomsday” Seed Vault is  built to protect millions of food crops from climate change, wars and natural disasters.  Dug into the permafrost of a remote arctic Norwegian mountain, it has been built to withstand everything up to a nuclear strike.

So why is this the perfect place to head to in-case of a zombie apocalypse?  The reasons are below:

  • Zombies can not live in arctic regions
  • Secure area that you can safeguard from motorcycle gangs, gov’t agencies and general bad guys who might try to steal your stuff….
  • In-case the government goes mad and tries to nuke the Zombie population, you will be safe
  • Tons of seeds = tons of food with the right sunlight and a little preparation

Be sure to bring a girl.  It could get lonely.  In-fact, bring a couple of girls.  They could get lonely :)

Pentagon claims direct hit on satellite’s fuel tank

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

So it is official that the gov’t blew up the billion dollar satellite. Other than this being a total monetary blunder I am most concerned about this being the start of a possible zombie uprising. I have seen countless zombie movies that have explained the occurance as a satellite exploding in our atmosphere and spreading an unknown toxic substance all over our planet as being the cause (i.e. Night of the Living Dead “Speculation rests on a radiation-covered NASA satellite returning from Venus”). With out further delay, I give you the scene explaining it all.

As a famous zombie hunter once said, “You better go get some jam, cuase your ass is toast!”

Diary of the Dead: Romero’s New Zombie Film

Monday, February 11th, 2008

George A. Romero’s, Diary of the Dead, is set for theatrical release on February 15th (this Friday).  In his most recent release, the God of zombie films has taken this film in a different direction then where we left off with Land of the Dead in 2005.

You could call it a semi-prequel-revamp of the original series. The events take place at the start of the outbreak in Night of the Living Dead (1968), but are placed in 2008.  The film, shot entirely with hand-held cameras, is being hailed as a Blair Witch meets Night of the Living Dead.  However, according to recent reports, Romero doesn’t like this label.

On Romero’s MySpace.com page, this is what he has to say about the movie and the cast: “Diary is a hundred percent independent, made with my partner, Peter Grunwald, and our new friends at Artfire. I haven’t had this much freedom since 1968. The cast, of what film critics will probably call “unknowns” (they won’t be for long) is, in my opinion, fuckin’ great.”

An interesting note about the movies cast.  Although, you won’t have heard of any of the main stars, a couple of notable characters/directors have been cast as what IMDB.com refers to as “Newsreader (voice)”.  Most notably cast are Quentin Tarantino, Stephen King, Guillermo del Toro, Wes Craven and Simon Pegg (Shawn of the Dead).

Diary of the Dead Plot:

Jason Creed, played by Joshua Close, and a small crew of college filmmakers are in the Pennsylvania woods making a no-budget horror film when they learn that the dead have started returning to life.  The frightened filmmakers set off in a Winnebago to try to get back to safety….only there isn’t a safe world to return to.  As his friends die and the world falls apart, Jason documents the true life horrors in a tense, first-person style.

****Note, on www.myspace.com/diaryofthedead, Romero held a zombie film fest of sorts, where people from all over could film a short zombie movie and submit it to him to judge….there are some pretty cool short films that they did……Can anybody say Zombie Whiskey?

Top 10 Zombie Movies

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Before I get to my top 10 zombie movies of all time, I wanted to point out that there are about 150 zombie movies according to Wikipedia.   A few interesting notes about the Wikipedia list:

  • 14 of these movies start with the word “zombie”
  • The Return of The Living Dead series has the most sequels (6 separate movies if you include Night of the Living Dead as the first in the series)
  • Hell of The Living Dead (known in the us as Zombie 2 (not II)) has the most “alternative titles” with 8, and Night of the Seagulls comes in second with 7.
  • There is at least one zombie title for every letter of the Alphabet
  • Longest zombie title:  “The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies”

Ok, now for my top 10 list of all time best zombie movies:

(from 10 to 1)

10.  Resident Evil -Milla is HOT

9.  Night of the Creeps - Quote: “The good news is your boyfriends are here. The bad news is they are dead”

8.  Dawn of the Dead (2004 Version) - Fast Zombies, but super scary!

7.  Shawn of the Dead - A romantic comedy, with zombies.

6.  Versus - Samurai versus Zombies.  The first 10 min. is awesome!

5.  Evil Dead 2 - Having a chainsaw for a hand…priceless

4.  28 Days Later - If the 2nd half was as good as the first, this one would have been higher on the list.

3.  Return of the Living Dead -Naked punk rocker chicks dancing on gravestones.

2.  Night of the Living Dead - Started them all.  Black and white makes it awesome

1.  Dawn of the Dead (1978 Version) - Quote: “Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills! The people it kills get up and kill!”

Hello world!

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Hello World.  This is the official first post for ZombieChatter.com.  You may wonder what this site will be once it is complete.  If you don’t care….then leave.  Otherwise read on.

The fact of the matter is, I have not decided what this site will be yet.  I really have two choices as I see it.

  1. This site can wind up being one of the premier zombie dedicated blogs on the web.  You know, one of those places where people go to read all about the latest and greatest zombie news.  Of course the Internet is full of these sites…but my ego accompanied by delusions of grandeur have led me to believe that I can do it better.
  2. This site can wind up being a place where my friends can share their various thoughts about the world.  You see, during your average work day, my friends who are jailed at the office tend to send around emails to each-other.  Typically these emails are on anything ranging from the pope to zombie movies.  This could be a great place for them to post the info versus sending it in an email forward.

Only time will tell what I wind up doing with this site.  In the meantime, enjoy it.
