The much anticipated martian spoof “Mutant Swinger from Mars” is set to finally see the light of day this summer at San Diego’s Comic Con! This spoof has been written about and rumored its roots began back in the 97/98 time frame, and features a cameo by the White Stripes/ Raconteurs/ Dead Weather very own Jack White!

Reports are there will be a taped intro by Jack White at this year’s comic con for the movie.  It was a low budget production (around $22,000) and from this trailer looks like it could be a lot of fun to check out!

Say what you will about Jack White but he is not one to sit on his laurels recently he has formed a new band Dead Weather who’s new album will be out in June.

The band will consist of an all star cast including:

  • Alison Mosshart of the Kills performing vocals
  • Jack Lawrence of the Raconteurs will play bass
  • Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age will play guitar
  • Jack White will play drums and sing

The group made their live debut last night at Jack White’s Third Man Record’s building in Nashville TN.  Their album will be on the street this June and will be called Horehound. The album was recorded at Third Man Record’s in just three weeks time. Keep your ears open to the radio for their first single entitled “Hang You From the Heavens” which you can purchase on itunes now or listen to it streaming on their website.

No word yet on tour dates, but you know they are coming too!

Needless to say this man is a musician that can not be tamed. I love how he works with so many different people all the time. In my personal opinion artist who work in the same group tend to get comfortable and don’t challenge themselves enough over time creating a staleness. I guess having two bands is not enough for Mr. White to stem that staleness. He had to have three. Let’s see how long this will last before he starts his fourth.

The burning question for me is does this open the door to a long awaited desert session for Josh Homme & Jack White? Both men pride themselves on working with various musicians to stay fresh, and now with Dean playing with White is a collaboration inevitable? Two of my favorite guitar players jamming together in the small shade of a Cactus! One can only dream.
