In 2008 there were many threads on ZombieChatter devoted to the race for the white house. We all have some strong feelings about our country and the candidates that were campaigning to run it. What I don’t understand is why none of us mentioned the most polarizing figure in the race? Not once did we talk about the Cobra Commander Campaign!

Blasphemy!

I actually just found these from g4 on youtube and if you knew about them and did not share with me …. well that is just wrong because they are pretty funny.  Check out how Cobra ran their mission for the White House on a platform that included world domination and weather dominator’s!

COBRAAAAAAAAAA!!!

This past weekend many dreams came true as GI Joe finally hit theatres around the country, and starlets Rachel Nichols (Scarlett) and Sienna Miller (Baroness) played no small role in the films enjoyability factor! I loved the film and these two exceptionally lovely ladies did nothing but enhance the film in my opinion. It is interesting how they are both natural blonds, but I personally prefer them with their died hair in the film. Rachel looks very hot as a red head, and Sienna looks sensational with her jet black hair; of course the skin tight leather helps as well! Enough talk lets get dangerous and look at these fem fatales!

So there you have it five tasty pictures of my current favorite vixens. What i want to know is which one would you choose if you could only pick one?

While watching GI JOE i liked them both but I would have given the edge to Sienna Miller. Maybe it was the Baroness costume that did it for me, but now that I’ve taken a closer look I think that Rachel Nichols has the edge. That said I guess the most interesting man in the world would answer this question the only way he can… with the right answer which is I’ll have the BOTH.

They say that knowing is half the battle…and critics don’t know shit. Why do I say this? It’s because they have forgotten what movies are all about. I will say this though, shut your brain down and buckle up for an action packed, sometimes cheesy good time. There is a bit of sub-par acting but overall I enjoyed this movie. Don’t expect it to win any awards, but you can definitely expect a sequel. Also, the accelerator suits are probably the least of your worries when it comes to unrealistic weapons or vehicles. They actually managed to serve up a little character development along the way as well.

Others may judge this movie harshly, but I thought it was a good two hours of entertainment and nostalgia. Go in with low expectations and you will have a good time.

Go see it in the theaters…and be your own judge as to what entertains you.

HOLY Crap.  At the beginning of the week the review for GI Joe: Rise of Cobra was in the 90’s…..now we’re in the 40’s and the “professional critics” haven’t even weighed in yet.

For anyone interested in watching this nose dive, you can check it out here:  http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/gi_joe/

I for one and still super excited to see it. I think GI Joe has had a target on it’s back – and the reviews that I have seen are saying that it’s a great popcorn flick…but to turn your brain off at the door.

I’ve been going back and watching the cartoon this week – just finished the “Mass Device” and the truth of the matter is that GI Joe as a franchise has asked us to turn our brain off at the door.  Why should the movie be any different?

Here we are boys and girls one week away from the debut of the live action GI Joe movie. Last week at this time we took a look at the very first cartoon mini series, but this week I bring you news of a new mini series in the works. This one will include the help of someone that is near and dear to many of your hearts Max Brooks!

News leaked out at last week’s comic con that Max who is best know for his work as the author on hit sellers World War Z and The Zombie Survival Guide has signed on to do a new GI Joe comic book mini series next year! Not many other details have been revealed other then it will be a 5 issue run and as of now nothing more is planned.

I’ll probably wait for this to come out as a trade paperback and pick this up. The only reason I ever read comics to begin with was I was a big GI Joe fan as a kid and for the longest time I read the GI Joe comic books.

One week and counting!

With GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra quickly approaching, I wanted to take a moment to weigh in on the “power suits” that we get to see in the trailer(s).  You know what I’m talking about….the Starship Trooper-style suit that you see many of the characters crashing through buses & flipping past missiles in.

The word on the ‘web’ is that the GI Joe power suits are actually called “Accelerator Suits.”  Aptly named, since they supposedly help the person who is wearing it run up to 80 miles per hour…

It is funny that they didn’t push any of this out in the original concept art that was release last year.  I wonder if the producers were waiting to “surprise” everybody with the next revelation…..or did they know that they really screwed up and tried to hide it as long as possible?

Channing Tatum, playing Duke in the movie, was quoted as saying:

“It was a lot of CGI – the whole car chase is on foot. It’s in these big suits that run 80 miles per hour, so a lot of it is CGI. They look like the Iron Man suit, but different. They are a little more realistic, not so comic booky”

Not so Comic booky?  Why did the producers decide to introduce the Accelerator Suit to the world of GI Joe?  If you look back to the comic, TV show and even movies, you never see anything like this introduced.  I guess there were some specific characters who had some “out-there” type of uniforms.  There was even the underwater guy (I forget his name right now) who wore a suit that helped him….well swim underwater.  No Accelerator Suit though.

I ask the question again….WHY?   Could this be designed based on the success of Iron Man?  Could this be because the producers and writers have NO CLUE what the world of GI Joe is all about?  Who knows.

In the end, I’ll have to see the movie to decide how stupid (or maybe even cool – I’ll keep and open mind) these suits are.  Until then, the trailer makes them look pretty ridiculous.

I am hoping…I mean really hoping that the rest of the movie makes up for anything stupid like this.  If they can get the Storm Shadow / Snakes Eyes relationship right…. The accelerator suit may just get a pass.

For those of you who have not see the latest GI Joe: Rise of Cobra trailer – here it is:

I must have had way too much to drink last night….because I never saw this trailer for GI Joe: Rise of Cobra.  I did catch it this morning though, and was pretty excited to see it all coming together after the announcement of the GI Joe movie last year.

From this teaser trailer, I’ll have to admit….I’m pretty excited about the movie now.  I think a lot of people (myself included) have been worried that this is going to turn out just plain silly.  Especially after some of the costumes pics were released.  However, now that I’ve seen GI Joe in action, it looks like it’s going to make a really good live action flick.

When watching the trailer, keep in mind that the guy with the hair (the bad guy) is Destro.  Guess he’s not going to be wearing his silver mask…. or at least they aren’t showing him with it just yet.

Anyway, if you didn’t catch it last night, here is the GI Joe Rise of Cobra Trailer

New pictures from the upcoming GI Joe the movie keep coming out.  This one is of the cross-bow weilding Scarlett played by Rachel Nichols.   I have to admit, she looks pretty damn hot!  In the comic, she and Snake Eyes had a “thing.”  Wonder if that will play out in the movie.

See the snake eyes pics that been released.

These are the first-look pictures for Snake Eyes in the Upcoming live action GI Joe movie set for release in 2009.

I’m glad that they are sticking to making the characters look like they did in the comic and cartoon.  I was afraid that I wouldn’t recognize any of the costumes.  by making sure that Snake Eyes looks the way he should, we can probably assume that the rest will be safe.

GI Joe the movie is slotted to hit theaters August 7, 2009.  Pushed forward by the success of Transformers, we will finally see a live action version of our favorite cartoon/comic All America Hero…..kinda.

Rumors galore have flown around the production of a live action GI Joe movie.  Last year the big one was that Hasbro decided to make it, but it was going to be called “Action Man”.  I am here to tell you today that that is not the case.   GI Joe is currently in production and being filmed as I write this post.  The movie will be called GI Joe….dropping the All American Hero.

The Action Man rumor started to circulate because Hollywood said that GI Joe was too American .  Ultimately the producers of the movie went with GI Joe (I hope for obvious reasons), however they decided to change what the acronym stood for in order to appeal to a wider, more international audience.

GI Joe Acronym (old/new)

  • In the 1980’s cartoon/comic/action figure:  Government Issued Joe
  • In the new live action GI Joe Movie:  Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity

According to a post by “Destro” on HisTank.com, who attended Hasbro’s 2008 Collector Media Day Event, “This film is set up so people who do not know what G.I Joe is all about get a nice back story explaining what G.I. Joe is along with MARS and Cobra with character background stories.  The film centers around a speechless Snake Eyes  and Storm Shadow and the female roles of The Baroness and Scarlett  play huge roles equal to if not more important then Destro  and Duke. ” I would click the link to HistTank.com above to read more about what Destro saw at the event.

I have also seen reports that Cobra Commander will be involved, however this character will play more of a puppet master/background character in this film.  Hopefully this signals that they have plans for more than one film.

The director and cast have all been announced. I have listed them below:

  • Director:  Brian Sommers (known best for the Mummy movies)
  • Duke:  Channing Tatum
  • The Baroness:  Sienna Miller
  • Cobra Commander: Joseph Gordon-Levitt  (rumored)
  • General Hawk:  Dennis Quaid
  • Scarlett: Rachel Nichols
  • Snake Eyes: Ray Park (known best as Darth Maul from Episode 1)
  • Storm Shadow:  Byung-hun Lee
  • Heavy Duty:  Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
  • Zartan: Arnold Vosloo (rumored)
  • Ripcord: Marlon Wayans (rumored)
  • Destro: David Murray (rumored)
  • Breaker: Said Taghmaoui

Some big names on that list, however I’m glad to see people I don’t know too much about as well.  A movie like this doesn’t need to be about “star power.”

I for one am very excited about a live action version of GI Joe.  Having been my favorite toy, comic and cartoon growing up, I’ve always wanted to see this movie happen.  Now, I can only hope that it turns out as good as I want it to.  So far, from what I have been able to find, it seems like I am going to get my wish. YOOOO JOE!
