Members of a Star Wars fan group, calling themselves the 501st, organized a so-called protest this weekend. The group targeted a number of movie theaters across the US and picketed dressed in Star Wars clothing….
What are these Uber-Geeks protesting may you ask?
They are upset about the editing changes to an upcoming Weinstein Co. comedy inspired by the sci-fi franchise. The movie is called Fanboys and is about four diehard “Star Wars” fans who try to break into George Lucas‘ Skywalker Ranch in order to see “The Phantom Menace” on the eve of its release.
Evidently the movie was re-cut to get rid of a cancer sub-plot. Probably a good move for a comedy.

Weinstein said last week that it will release the two versions on DVD, and a studio source later said that is exploring two theatrical versions. Guess that didn’t make these fans too happy.
The 501st claims that they had people all over the US protesting, but reports from the theaters that they claim to have been picketing outside of are reporting that 1 maybe 2 people actually showed up in most places.
This is the trailer for the movie. (It actually looks pretty funny….if you are a Geek like me
)
