This Hay Furniture building was located on the corner of Seventh Avenue and South Main Street. Hay Furniture remained a family business for the next 110 years, finally closing in 2002. This building in Aberdeen was constructed between 1901 and 1904 after Aberdeen was officially declared the county seat in 1890 following a ten-year struggle for that designation with neighboring Columbia. This is the second courthouse built in Aberdeen, the first being constructed in 1887 at the current Aldrich Park site.

In 1910, Mary Arntz was principal and the teachers were Inez Sims, Clara Washburn, and Myrtle Edgington. Washington High School became part of the new Aberdeen High School when it opened in 1910. Washington High School was located at the corner of Third Avenue SE and Kline Street, next to the Lincoln Elementary School. Washington building is still part of the Central High School. This is a pre-1907 undivided-back postcard of the elementary and high school before any trees were planted. The new Aberdeen Central High School was opened in 1910.
