Hulu.com is Pretty Friggin’ Cool

What the heck is a hulu? Doesn’t matter (I’ll tell you later in this article), but what does matter is that Hulu.com is a joint venture designed to deliver content from at least a dozen TV networks and two major film studios.
This on-demand content works kinda like MySpace.com. The difference is that you can watch full TV episodes and movies via the Internet (all at no charge to you). The execs at Hulu say that this isn’t competitive with MySpace.com because, unlike myspace, they are only delivering premium produced content on Hulu. You won’t go there to find “fat boy crying” or “man gets hit in balls with a football”. You also won’t be uploading anything. It is all provided by Hulu.com.
Since its launch on March 12th, Hulu already has a ton of premium content including TV episodes from the Simpson, Family Guy and some older stuff like the A-Team. You will also find movies like the Three Amigos, 28 Days Later and The Big Lebowski.
The name Hulu comes from a Mandarin Chinese proverb, in which it means holder of precious things.
You may be asking yourself…what is the catch?
There really isn’t anything wrong. The site provides the free content. There are some ads built into the movies and TV shows, but nothing as bad as what you would find watching an episode of Lost live…
Will this replace TV? Not likely, the content is very good, but watching HD TV is still better. Even if you hook your HD TV up to your laptop to watch (like I did last night), regular TV quality is still better. The net-net is that Hulu is higher quality then Myspace, but lower quality then regular TV (not that much lower). But who cares? This stuff is free and on-demand.
