The End is Near Chinese Democracy Unleashed!

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

That’s right game over.

Reports indicate that Guns N Roses long awaited follow up to their double album release Use Your Illusions 1 & 2 may  see the light of day this year.  This must be a  sign of the end of the world and the forthcoming zombie apocalyptic invasion.I can see nothing else coming from the release of the 14 years in a the making Chinese Democracy by Guns N Roses. (well okay by Axl Rose and whoever he could scrounge up to help him out and call it Guns N Roses)

I must admit when i first heard this was happening i was a little worried because I’m sure i made a bet sometime in my past that China would actually become a democratic country before the album Chinese Democracy ever came out. I feel like i bet a lot of money on it too so hopefully whoever that was is not attempting to hunt me down. Although I’m not trembling in fear of having to pay up just yet. I mean this is Axl we are talking about. He has had about as many botched take offs for this album as NASA has seen in recent years with fuselage problems. There have been concerts, leaked songs, rumors, and so much more over the past decade about its release. Dates have even been set. Of course those dates have come and gone. At this time though it has been reported to have been delivered to Geffen and is rumored to have a total cost in production over years of 13 million dollars. I’ll say that again 13 MILLION dollars. The article mentions that Axl and Geffen are haggling over money and rights issues. Hey Axl you spent 13 mil what more do you want!

I don’t even know who the musicians besides Axl would be on the album. I know at one point Buckethead was working with him, but they had a falling out (who hasn’t had a falling out with Axl). Will his work be on the album?  Will the album be any good? Will it sound like it was  pieced together or will it have a cohesive flow? I know it won’t have Izzy’s great riffs and hooks, Slash’s soaring signature solos, or Duff steady baselines and strong backing vocals which means it is off to a poor start.

In addition those preparing for the end can do so with the knowledge that they will at least be armed with a can of Dr Pepper. You may have heard about a month ago Dr. Pepper put out a blanket statement saying that if Chinese Democracy was released in 2008 they would give every man woman and child in the free world a can of Dr Pepper. I know when i pack my zombie survival kit i always carry a can of Dr Pepper! Obviously the execs at Pepsi know that if this album comes out we are all up the creek and our paddles are turning into snakes.

I for one would like to see this train wreck come to an end and hear this atrocity, but the realist in me says it ain’t really gonna happen. I feel my bet earlier in life is pretty safe, but only time will tell. One has to wonder if the recent destruction of religion on Zombie Chatter was the catalyst to set these events in motion? The release of Chinese Democracy is a sure sign of us moving closer to the events in Revelations.  Perhaps if a release date is set we will have to have a new Zombie Chatter countdown on our side bar!

So this is rumored to be the cover of the new Lil Wayne Album…… I just had to share because i thought it was hilarous! Just shows Lil Wayne has been a thug since he was a Lil Guy!

I’m 64% sure this is a joke, but god if it is not i’ll vote for it as best album cover of the year!

Religion Disappears …. NKOTB Returns. It must be the end of the world!

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Some might think it is a coincidence, but I was checking out the latest Zombie News and saw that religion had dissappeared.  Then, I immediately went to check my email and saw the following headline when my mailbox opened:

New Kids on the Block to Reunite

So let’s get this straight:  first, religion disappears.  then, nkotb returns.  It must be the end of the world!

New Kids on the BlockNew Kids Reunite!

My friends, I have seen Hell and it is…..

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Removing wallpaper. Before I purchased Casa Reiss-Crosby I thought that my personal Hell might be watching The Golden Girls non-stop while listening to Michael Bolton and Celine Deon singing a duet with Kenny G blowing the ass-horn in the background.

Nope….. does not even compare to removing wallpaper.

The experts (and numerous websites) will tell you that this is such an easy process. They blow sunshine up your ass letting you think that it’ll be poodles and daises. NO it’s really barbed wire and open scabs…it’s horrible

            Their Idea                                                 The reality

I first began this (miss) adventure last Sunday; I went to my local Home Depot and rented a wallpaper steamer, (a devise that heats water and makes skin peeling steam as to remove your wall paper) it worked well, but I was crawling along at a snail’s pace. During my 2 day rental, We made it through 3 rooms, (Sara made it through a bathroom with the conventional spray; her Hell was far worse than mine) but 3 rooms worth of wallpaper remained. To make matters worse the previous owners used a lot of glue and did not prime the walls before putting up the paper, this exacerbated the process making it incredibly slow and even more painstaking than I’m guessing it should have been. I knew, even then, that the worse was yet to come.

So this previous Friday was the day I was going to make the wallpaper my bitch and take it down, I knew it would take a Herculean effort. I went to Home Depot again and rented the steamer at 5:06 pm Friday April 4th, I proceeded to go home and steam, 24 hours later I had finished (I slept 3 of the 24 hours) …but not without burning myself numerous times from the steam that issued from my portable Hell-fire device.

My advice, if you’re going to remove wallpaper, call me. I’ll bring the Celine Deon and laugh at you the entire time, that way you get the full effect…

The Death of the Full-Length Album

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

The future of music is heading towards its past. With digital downloads gaining in popularity every year, more and more people purchase fewer albums and purchase more single songs on the internet. There are many debates over this subject that revolve around the “what came first the chicken or the egg”. Did musicians as a whole stop making great albums which ultimately led people to only want the two or three songs that were good, or did people’s short-attention span stop giving albums enough of a listen to really get the other non-accessible songs? I believe it is a combination of both, but regardless the full length album will eventually take the way of the dinosaurs.

When musicians first started recording music for distribution they would record 2-3 songs and send them to a radio station, i.e. Elvis and etc. Two of my favorite bands, The Smashing Pumpkins and Muse, have recently announced they will no longer release albums but release 2-3 songs at a time on the internet. It is where the past meets the future and very interesting how things tend to go in cycles.

This is bitter sweet for me since I believe my favorite albums are great because they captured a theme or a general feeling of a moment in time. These 2-3 songs released will in no way have the same impact as a full length album, but it will ultimately result in more releases through out a 2 year period. Generally a band will release one album every two years and would probably release 2-3 song blocks every couple of months, which is typically a net gain in songs.

So at the end of the day we lose some and gain some. Ultimately, I want more great music and I am excited about what the future will bring as the music industry continues to evolve.

Guitar Hero For the Nintendo DS

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Guitar Hero: On Tour is coming to the Nintendo DS.  Its not out yet, but according the GuitarHeroOnTour.com, the game is set to be released this summer.

I have Guitar Hero 2, and have played the third one a bunch.  The game series is awesome, and I have battled against my friends (and family) to declare domination of songs like War Pigs, Sweet Child O’ Mine and Woman.

This new installment looks interesting, but I’ll have to wait to see how it actually plays.  Unlike the console versions of the game where you have a guitar shaped controller, the DS On Tour version has a small peripheral that attaches to the DS. On the peripheral you will find 4 color keys similar to the keys found on the console versions guitar controller (as seen in the pic)

Along with the single player campaign, Guitar Hero: On Tour will also support multiplayer. The game will feature both co-op as well as competitive two player options using the local wireless functions of the Nintendo DS system. The game’s battle mode will feature similar gameplay as the mode created in Guitar Hero III, with power-ups created specifically for Guitar Hero: On Tour. For example, players can activate power-ups that’ll send raving fans to the other screen, and the opponent will have to sign autographs on the touchscreen to get rid of them. Or out-of-control pyrotechnics will be set ablaze, and players will have to blow them out using the Nintendo DS microphone.

I can’t seem to find which songs are going to be on the game, but I’m hopeful that they hit the mark!

\M/ Army of Two \M/

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I’m not much of a gamer myself but I really like checking out the new games that come out and seeing them played. I get blown away by the graphics of some of these games on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Some of them are truly stunning. I was watching TV a few days ago and the Army of Two commercial came on and really caught my eye. It looks pretty cool but what caught my attention the most was the song. It was a pretty bitchin cover and i was not sure who was doing it but i liked the sound. Well fighting off some boredom tonight i stumbled upon the below little video on youtube showing Atlanta’s very own Metal Masters Mastodon recording the cover for the commercial. \m/

Awesome shit and one more reason to get on the Mastodon bandwagon while there is still room. Great thing about those guys is being video game fans themselves i’m sure they were pretty geeked up to do this for EA.

Here’s hoping that somebody i know with a 360 will pick this game up. I would bet good money my brother has it on order already. It comes out on 3/6. Can’t wait to check it out. Below are some behind the scenes looks at the recording of the song and some more scenes from the upcoming game.

Frank Black Fought the Law

Monday, February 11th, 2008

And it looks like the Law won this one.

In true Rock N Roll Fashion Frank Black (pixies front man) played a little gig outside St Stephens Green in Dublin on Saturday. Unfortunately for him too many folks showed up and after he rocked out and signed some autographs the police showed up and took him away.

I’m sure not much will come of this and at least they let him finish his set, but it still has to suck for him to deal with the entire fiasco. Evidently he was arrested for having too many people watch him perform and not having a license for that said performance. Oh well I’m sure this will make for a great story over a beer when he makes it back stateside!

Here is a clip from the gig:
