This video production company, EventStreams, pulled together a pretty awesome zombie spoof about producing videos in a post-apocalyptic world!  Got to love the humor of it.  Very funny, definitely worth a watch….Enjoy!

Probably NSFW. The world may be running out of Zombie ideas

I’m sure every one of you has seen the viral video sensation that is the Winnebago Man. It’s one of the original virals that may only be topped by the Star Wars Kid video. So, there’s a documentary about him that I watched last night and it was really good. The original video is one of those internet classics that you get a good laugh at someone else’s expense and it never gets old. In the Documentary, Jack Rebney aka “The Angriest Man in the World”, is tracked down to find out how this video and its popularity has affected his life and outlook on life. The result may surprise you. It’s a very interesting story that will keep you laughing and at the same time make you feel sentiments toward him.

It’s available on Netflix (DVD only), or you can watch it in its entirety for $3.99 on youtube here: Winnebago Man

As Jack Rebney would say “Do yourself a Kindness” and give this doc a watch.

World War Z

, the epic Zombie novel by writer Max Brooks, has been having some financing problems.  Evidently Paramount Pictures has been a little risk adverse noting that they have been looking for business partners to help fund the now 125m + budget of the film.

According to Deadline, coming to the rescue is Larry Ellison (the Leader of Oracle) to help co-finance the project.  Nothing is final at this point, but evidently, the talks are “hot and heavy” with production beginning in June.  Ellison also helped to finance some other projects including Iron Man 2.  Ellison is known for a bit of grand-standing (which is clear based on the SAP TomorrowNow/Oracle trial late last year – which I won’t waste anymore type space on).  If he funds the project, I’ll make a bet with anyone that we’ll see him in a cameo of the movie (just like in Iron Man 2 – where he plays himself).

No doubt this pushes off the rumored 2012 delivery date of the film.

With star power including Brad Pitt and director Marc Forester, my feel is that we’ll see a great Zombie Movie get made….It’s just a matter of when and who steps to the table to help finally finance it.

It’s sad movie night. Starring James Ashby as Zombie Friend: Jon Brence Created by Jon Brence and Aaron Rasmussen Make-Up continue reading…

This is always my favorite time of year to see movies. College football for the most part has ended freeing up time on Saturday’s, it is dark at 5:30 so you feel like you should not do much after work on the week night, and many of the Oscar hopefuls release their films around this time as well. You seem to get a better selection of films that are done artistically as compared to your summer blockbuster’s that generally are created for another very important pleasure which is pure entertainment.

The last three movies I’ve seen have all been pleased me in one way or another so I wanted to run them down quickly and give us a forum so others could talk about them, but also mention some others I may have missed that have come out that are good as well.

Onto the movies…..

Black Swan

There is a nice overview of the movie at  Wikipedia.

This was a fun movie that really shows the slippery slope of someone who is a little unstable being pushed over her edge. The begins to blur reality and Nina’s mind a bit but it never goes too far out of left field that you can’t tell you are in Nina’s mind and not the real world. The direction is great, the cinematography does a good job as well although the mirror motif may have been slightly overplayed in the movie. It is a nice character study that I enjoyed. Natalie Portman was really good in this. She has had some shaky roles previously that made me wonder if it was her acting or the script that damaged her role, but she leaves no doubt here in her ability. Mila Kunis plays her part very well also. I think working for a director like Darron Aronofsky helps bring out the best in everyone. I would not be surprised at all to see Portman win the best actress as I don’t think I’ve seen anyone better this year.

On a side not she may be nominated for TWO AVN awards (that’s adult video nominee for those not in the know)! One for best solo scene and one for hottest same sex lover scene. :)

It is a well made movie that holds your interest the entire way. I would give it a 4 our of 5 stars and would recommend it to all.

True Grit

Overview from Wikipedia

The Coen Brothers take on the late 60’s classic novel is a very nice western. I’ve never read the novel and it has been MANY years since i saw the orginal film that starred John Wayne, so this review will be based solely on the movie itself. What I really liked about the film was the acting and the dialogue.  Everyone in the film was supurb and that starts first and foremost with Jeff Bridges. All due respect to the Duke I don’t know how anyone could play Marshal Reuburn J “Rooster” Cogburn any better then Jeff Bridges did. His sidekicks in the movie Mattie Ross and Texas Ranger La Boeuf played by Elizabeth Marvel and Matt Damon respectively play their parts extremely well. Elizabeth Marvel particularly stands out in her role. Not to be forgotten is the villain of the tale Tom Chaney played by Josh Brolin who again like the others puts in a top notch performance.

The dialogue is very witty and quite humorous. Many times I found myself catching the joke a second too late as they did not stop for you to laugh but kept the movie moving along. The pace of the movie is very quick and the time seems to fly by in the theatre. It seems to keep to the story of the original movie very closely from what I can remember but it has been some time since I saw the original.

My only issue with the film is it is a stereotypical 50’s/60’s western. Good guys are gonna win and there are some plot points that I don’t think work in a generation that is used to “grittier” violence. I don’t think I can fault it too much for sticking to its source though. It is just an issue I found that held this movie back from being even better, but I don’t know if it could have been made any better based on the original source material.

If you are a fan of westerns I think you will enjoy this. I went with someone who loved the original and left very happy with this movie. If you are a fan of fantastic dialogue and excellent acting this is a good movie to watch. I would not be surprised to see Bridges win Best Actor for this. I am going to rate this a 3.5 out of 5. It is a very solid movie that is carried by it’s acting.

The Fighter

Wikipedia’s overview

Okay when I first saw the preview of this I honestly had no interest in it. Another boxing movie…. Big deal one comes out every 5 years and people gush about it. Well I was wrong this movie is great. Lets just go ahead and get it out of the way Christian Bale is winning his first Oscar and it is going to be for supporting actor as Dicky Eukland the pride of Lowell Massachusetts. He was phenomenal. At the end of the movie you meet the real Mickey and Dicky as the credits are rolling and you see just how spot on Bale was.

Yes at its heart it is just another boxing movie but I was really entertained throughout the entire film. During the last fight I found myself rooting for Mickey I wante him to win it is like I was there. It is well directed, but perhaps more importantly it was copletly enthralling and entertaining. I won’t ruin anything about this one by revealing plots. It is based on a true story so the ending is out there and can be found easily, but I did not know what was going to happen when I was watching and I found that to make the movie even better.

Go see this for Christian Bale’s performance,  and go see this to entertain yourself with a story that pulls you in for 2 hours. 4.5 out of 5.

I have not seen Tron yet I was hoping one of you all may have seen it?

click and drag your mouse over the video to see the event from any angle you want. What’s cool about this is that you pretty much have a different video each time you watch it.

Pro Tip: There’s a stripper dancing on a pole in this video…see if you can find her

This is from the set of Predator 2. Danny Glover is in it too.
