The CDC got people’s attention Wednesday when it posted “Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse” online. “If zombies did start roaming the streets, CDC would conduct an investigation much like any other disease outbreak. CDC would provide technical assistance to cities, states, or international partners dealing with a zombie infestation.” The blog post was a gag meant to highlight the center’s actual emergency plans, for things like hurricane; it was, nevertheless, a huge hit, with both the original blog post and the cached version crashing due to traffic.

The lastest from Smashing Pumpkins, Owatta, is a fun summer song. There are no epic guitar leads or pounding rock drums. It is a pleasent positive pop song with good lyrics. It is definetely more Zwan than Smashing Pumpkins, which is not a bad thing for me. At this point I think it is safe to say that TBK will be defined by strong synthesizers, much like Machina for many was defined by over-produced mixes (guitars/drums/vocals). I personally liked the Cris Isaaks Show version of this song the best. There was a horn section and it did not have any synthesizers.

The song is pretty good after a few listens. I really like Nicole’s back-up vocals. It is much better than BC doing them. I would say it falls somewhere in the middle of the pack out of the released TBK material thus far. Tom, Tom remains the best song in my book. It will be interesting to see if any of the new songs will knock it out of my top spot.
