Nice you beat me to it. I was going to do a post on this same subject tonight.
Best Movie- Up in the Air
I have only seen:Avatar, Blind Side, District 9, Inglorious Bastards, Up In the Air, Hurt Locker
Of those for me it comes down to the Hurt Locker and Up in the Air. I think both are flawed and both have very special moments. I give the nod to Up in the Air i think it was the better all around film. For the record I would have Avatar a close third behind those two.
Best Director-
I have not seen precious although I really want to. I’ve seen the others here.
Hmm this is tough for me. For direction it comes down to James Cameron and Jason Reitman. I think I lean towards Cameron here.
Best Actor-
I’ve only seen Freeman, Clooney, and Renner here. I feel I’m at a disadvantage because I’ve heard Jeff Bridges was sensational. Of the three I saw I would give the nod to Freeman. I thought he was a great Nelson Mandella played the part wonderfully.
Supporting Actor-
I only saw Waltz and Damon. I really should see the others because I did not think damon was anything special. Waltz though was very good in his role. Hard to compare him to the others though not having seen the films.
Actress-
I’ve only seen Bullock in the blind side but man she nailed that! She was really good here.
Supporting Actress-
Again I’ve only seen one person here Vera Farmiga, but as good as I thought Bullock was in Blind Side I thought Vera Rocked this role in Up in the Air. After the movie I left and looked up who she was because I thought she played her part REALLY well. Obviously I can’t compare it though as I’ve not seen the others (besides Anna Kendrick who was good too but not as strong as Vera)
Animated Film-
I liked Coraline a lot, but I’m a Neil Gaiman fanatic. I’ve not seen Up everyone seemed to like it a lot though.
Original Screenplay-
Of the ones I saw I really liked the dialogue and flow of Inglorious Bastards the best out of those nominated here.
Adapted Screenplay-
Again of the ones I’ve seen I go with Up in the Air. Just because I know how much of the story was changed from the book they really did a lot of work with this one. District 9 was pretty damn good too though.

Oh and if I may biggest snub was Viggo Mortenson not being nominated for Best Actor for his role in “The Road”
Quite possibly his best performance and he is stuck on the outside looking in.

Seeing as how I’m mostly a rental guy when it comes to movies and I have not see a few of these…
I really want to see Crazy Heart but I though Jeremy Renner was awesome in Hurt Locker. UP was pretty awesome even when you consider the huge kick to the dick it gives you in the first 15 minutes. And although Avatar was incredible visually… It’s a damn near exact replica of the plots from Pocahantas and Fern Gully and does not deserve to run away with all the awards.
That’s my two cents without seeing all nominations

Apparently, Sandra Bullock is up for best actress as well as a Razzie for worst actress in the same year. The razzie is for some movie called “all about steve”… Or something like that

I saw that! If she wins both it would be the first time anyone has ever won both awards!
Mindbomb did you rent precious or did you guys see that in the theatre? It never made it’s way to a theatre by me so i missed it when it was out.

Never saw it, but I saw a mini-docu on the movie and the book (and the previews). From the looks of it, it looks like most involved put in some “once in a lifetime” performances. I wanted to see it at the theater, but to be honest it’s such a heavy movie that I thought I’d wait till video…

I saw Up in the Air last night. There is some potential for it – especially in the bets supporting actress category. Both of the main women are nominated. However, precious has gotten so much press I think that Mo’Nique walks away with the prize.
George might walk away with best actor from Up in the air.
Overall it was really good.
I still need to see Wild Hearts, Invictus and a Serious Man before I can create a final list.

I was disapointed Up in the Air got so little love. I really liked that movie.

I got 4 out of 9. Not bad. I was a little dissapointed that IB did not win best original screenplay. Not a huge shocker that Precious won a couple… this is suppose to be a very powerful movie.
I like it that Hurt Locker won the lion’s share, howerever I did not personally like this movie as much as 4 of the others in the best picture category. It is nice to see a movie like this with its origins do well.
