Alex Rodriguez AKA A-Roid Comes Clean w/ Peter Gammons

The New York Yankees star third baseman Alex Rodriquez apparently has come cleanwith ESPN’s senior sports writer Peter Gammons on his usage of steroids during his time with the Texas Rangers. In the interview that A-Rod says he was feeling immense pressure to succeed after signing baseball’s largest contract ever, and was willing to do anything he could to help himself live up to expectations. He admits to using steroids during the 2001, 2002, and 2003 seasons in the small portion of the interview that ESPN released this afternoon.
Perhaps taking a page from current and former Yankee’s Andy Pettitte and Jason Giambi Roriquez seems to think his best course of action is not to deny his wrong doings but to apologize for them. The difference is Giambi and Pettitte were loved by fans much more then A-Rod has who has never been accepted in the Bronx where his lack of post season success still looms large over him. I commend Alex for coming out about this though. It really is his best course of action. Don’t kid yourself if you still think steroids was an isolated occurrence. I don’t care which team you root for everyone has people who have used and it is only a matter of time before it comes out.
This is a black eye for baseball and I’m interested to see how this interview plays out with A-Rod. A-Rod has always been able to say the right things but for some reason I usually don’t believe his sincerity. Him and Derek Jeter could say the exact same statement and I’d believe Jeter, but think that A-Rod was just saying it because it was the right thing to say.
ESPN will have the entire Interview tonight on the 6pm edition of Sports Center. Stay tuned because the circus show is just beginning there are 103 other names that tested positive that will slowly start to be revealed over the coming months.

ok, so everybody seems to be using steroids. Lets make them mandatory. Yes, you read that correctly.
Lets make it so that every athlete must take steroids. No more BS around who’s doing it and who isn’t.
What have we learned about almost every “big” “successful” baseball player out there? They are taking steroids.
Lets level the playing field…for once.

The players union is part to blame for this mess. Obviously everyone individually is truly responsible, but the players union fought for a long time to not have specific testing. Then in 03 they had this supposedly anonymous testing. They should have destroyed all the samples afterwards so these 104 people would not be dealing with this. If someone asks you for something off the record and then it gets leaked out to everyone that is wrong.
It is a mess and their testing is still a joke because they don’t test for HGH. Until then I’ll have to assume that most hitters and pitchers are using.
It is kind of like smoking in high school. Sure not everyone smoked under age in high school but a lot of people did it. A lot of the cool kids did it. It was what everyone was doing. Teachers new that the kids at the back of the playground went back their to smoke and for the most part let them be.
