Fly you stupid computer!

Fly you stupid computer!

I’m by no means a morning person, but with Scruffpup here, I’m trying to turn over a new leaf.

I arrived at work today at the early time of 6.55am, and was promptly greeted by an email from our IT department telling me I need to upgrade a major software app that I use 85% of the time I’m at work.

This was supposed to take 10-15 minutes, according to IT…but since I have a ton of work to do today, I should have known that this was going to be a mess.

After the upgrade partially failed on the first try, I spent some time trying to re-run the update.  Nope, not working.  So, I try to track down one of our IT guys.  About 20 min later, I did get an voicemail with a workaround.

So I run the workaround and it makes me reboot my computer.  Doesn’t sound like a big deal, but I’m not supposed to get that prompt.  Now I have the program updated, but all of the juicy software templates that I need were just erased, and the computer restarted before it added the new versions!!!

So, now, at 9am, after 2 hours of screwing with this mess, I finally have this setup…at least I think I do.  I still have to reboot again for some stupid reason.

Sorry for venting.  I hate my computer right now.

I hate my computer!

I hate my computer!

This video starts of innocently enough.  “Ha ha” you think, people are getting punched.  But wait…..

The House of Representatives passed an $819 BILLION stimulus package that’s on its way to the Senate.  The vote went basically straight down party lines (with 12 democrats voting against with republicans).  There is wide speculation that the cost of the package will increase during Senate negotiations.

ZC examined some of the questionable items in “Stimulus Package = Crap, But Dems Approve!,” but I thought it’d be worthwhile to break down the major components of the plan so we can have a better discussion about the stimulus package.

Currently, the plan contains about $275 billion in tax cuts, and about $525 billion in direct spending and other provisions.  Here’s a generic breakdown of the package:

Tax cuts
  • Payroll-tax holiday: $99 billion
  • Expanded earned-income tax credit: $25 billion
  • Tuition tax credit: $10 billion
  • Business expensing tax breaks: $90 billion
  • Renewable-energy tax credit: $20 billion
Relief
  • Expanded unemployment insurance: $42 billion
  • Health insurance for unemployed: $40 billion
  • Expanded food stamps: $20 billion
  • Housing assistance: $11 billion
  • Supplemental Security Income payments: $4 billion
  • Welfare: $3 billion
Infrastructure
  • Highways: $30 billion
  • School renovation: $20 billion
  • Health information technology: $17 billion
  • Transportation projects: $16 billion
  • Water projects: $8.4 billion
  • Military and V.A. construction: $7 billion
  • Accelerated deployment of broadband: $5.6 billion
Help for state and local governments
  • Medicaid cost sharing: $87 billion
  • State grants: $79 billion
  • State and local bond tax credit: $42 billion
  • Community development: $5 billion
  • Rural development: $4 billion
Energy efficiency
  • Federal energy-efficiency projects: $22 billion
  • Energy-efficiency grants: $18.5 billion
  • Smart electric grid: $11 billion
  • Renewable-energy loan guarantees: $8 billion
Human capital
  • Education programs: $29 billion
  • Pell grants: $18 billion
  • Job training: $4.6 billion
  • Scientific research: $3 billion

Of note, the Congressional Budget Office suggests the bill could create as many as 3.6 million jobs in the next two years, but the low-end estimate is only 1.2 million.

The House passed the new stimulus package today.  It passed without a single Republican’s vote, and with 12 Democrats also opposing.

The bill now moves towards the Senate as a $900 Billion monstrosity.  Why am I such a downer?  Becasue I saw what happened the first time they pulled this crap.

A mere few months ago TARP was shoved down America’s throat as being a swift and decisive action that needed to be done to stimulate the economy!  The economy would crash if banks didn’t get money they needed to start lending again.  What happend? A whole lot of nothing.  The bill was so convoluded that it gave US citizens’ rights to see where their money was going.

And now we have another STIMULUS package.  A deal that’s supposed to be quick, strong, and fast-acting to help boost jobs and the economy.  But what’s in this package?  Here are some of my favorite things that House Democrats have decided are necessary and represent swift, bold action to repair the nation’s economy:

  • $335 million for sexually transmitted disease prevention
  • $600 million to buy new cars for government employees
  • $1 billion to follow up on the 2010 census, which, of course, hasn’t happened yet

Hmm…these are exactly the kind of programs we need in a STIMULUS Package!!!

This is all a joke.  I really hope Obama works out.  He has the potential to be one of the most loved presidents of all time…but if he keeps this up, he’s going to go down in flames.  He just spent his ENTIRE CAMPAIGN talking about CHANGE.  CHANGE how things work in Washington.  CHANGE so that it’s no longer politics as usual.  Well, Mr. Obama, this isn’t CHANGE!  This is the same old crap of piling things onto another bill to try to win support when what you’re adding has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with what you’re trying to accomplish.

Please, Obama, call for an end of this crap.  If not, I fear you will fall vicitim the way Bush v.1.0 did to Clinton when they kept playing “No New Taxes” over and over after Bush raised taxes when he said he wouldn’t.  “Change” is good.  Your stimulus package, sir, is not!

Recently being in the company of an asshole, I was asking myself “self, why are assholes assholes?” My simple answer was that some sort of trauma earlier in the individual’s life caused them to be this way. I then dug a little deeper and found the below research that was very interesting.

“Brain scans of 41 convicted killers (vs. 41 “ordinary controls”) demonstrated diminished sugar metabolism in this region of the inmates’ brains. Studies have demonstrated that serotonin-responsive neurons in this region of the brain are very important in modulating behaviour, and these neurons are the targets of a variety of antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and anti-aggressive drugs.

Several genes involved in our cells’ serotonin pathways have been linked to cases of extreme aggressive behaviour. For example, mice with defects in the Monoamine Oxidase A (MAOA), a gene involved in serotonin synthesis, show bizarre behavioural abnormalities, including extreme aggression towards other mice and their human handlers, as well as abnormal mating behaviour, including constant mounting of unreceptive females. It is interesting to note that these behavioural abnormalities only affected males.

In humans, there are several studies of a particular family in Europe in which several males with mutations in the MAOA gene, have been incarcerated for rape, murder, and assault, often targeted towards family members. Interestingly, chemically blocking MAOA activity in adult mice did not increase aggressive behaviour, suggesting that MAOA is not the only factor involved. ”

So next time I am in the company of an asshole I might just tell them to get their MAOA levels in check because they are starting to piss me off.

You may have heard the reports that NBC has sacked Peta’s proposed Super Bowl advertisement fondly called “Veggie Love”.  The TV executives came out and have basically labeled the ad “too hot for tv” and have told Peta they will not be able to air it during the super bowl.

This of course got my attention. Hey what can I say with this morning’s I’d Hit That I have sex on the brain. Maybe it is because I had a vegetarian lunch yesterday? Evidently in the ad Peta proposes that vegetarians have better sex drive then carnivorous. The ad depicts a woman getting frisky with her veggies. No nothing as blatant as a carrot or cucumber the lovely actress gets her kink with a pumpkin and some broccoli. Don’t take my word for it though have a look for yourself (safe for work, but I would not watch it with my boss behind my back):

To me it’s not too bad. We as Americans have always been hyper sensitive to sexual advertisements. Many folks in Europe would laugh that this caused even a stir, on the other hand though in a Middle Eastern country I’m sure they would probably cut off my genitals for even writing about this. In a way i think it is too bad that this won’t air because I have a feeling it would have been the commercial everyone was talking about at the water cooler on Monday or Tuesday if you are like me and you are skipping work on Monday!

So like your mom’s told you boys and girls remember to eat your Veggies!

Leighton Meester plays Blair Waldorf on the hit TV show Gossip Girl, but no need to linger on that too much. The reason she is the topic of discussion today is she is HOT. This I’d Hit That has been several months in the making. Leighton was brought to my attention back in early November by a friend who professed how attractive she was. I had no clue who Leighton Meester was because I had never seen Gossip Girl, but I soon made a point to look into Leighton. No doubt  about it this 22 year old does not disappoint!

I can’t say much for Miss Meester’s acting abilities because I’ve never seen them, but she has talent that you can’t teach! Sometimes when trying to find “good” pictures i have to dig through several search pages. I have to say Leighton was not that way at all. It seems she is pretty popular and has some nice shots easily found on the Internet. Here are a couple more for us all to take a peak at. Leighton is an I’d Hit That kind of girl for me for sure!
