Tron 2.0 Movie Updates and News
Official news and updates for Tron 2.0 (AKA, TR2N), the sequel to the highly successful 1982 Disney cult-classic movie based on a programmer who is pulled into a computer and forced to fight in the games he helped create, has officially signed on two new actors.
I’ve heard all kinds of rumors about Tron 2.0. The first and most exciting rumor was that the original programmer, played by Jeff Bridges, was going to reprise his role and actually enter the program to fight the younger version of himself. In fact, at Comic Con earlier this year, some footage for the new film appeared out of nowhere showing Jeff Bridges in the virtual world. I can only believe that Bridges will be reprising his role as Kevin Flynn in the movie. I’ve also seen Tron 2.0 written as TR2N on some sites. More to come on the official title.
According to Reuters, the two new actors who have signed on are Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett. The Tron 2.0 script is being guarded – fort knox style, but they have released that Wilde will be playing a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program – the main nemesis in the original movie. Garrett will be a siren in the virtual world….whatever the heck that means. Wilee and Garrett both co-stared in the movie Turistas a few years back.
Joseph Kosinski, also set to direct the remake of logans run in 2010, is directing Tron 2.0 while Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, is one of the producers.
Evidently, the lead characters have not been chosen yet, so there is still a lot more to vet out before this starts to really get me excited. The original was so very cool because of the gladiator style fighting and ground breaking special effects…which by today’s standards look like they’re from the stone age. I can only imagine what today’s CGI will bring to the table, and I can only hope that the movie still focuses on a solid plot instead of trying to overdo it with “special effects.”
This is the clip that was released at Comic Con earlier this year: (quality isn’t so good, but it’s the best I could find. Everything out there is bootlegged so far)

Interesting. It would be nice to see this movie with updated technology. I remember tron being pretty funny when i went back and watched it a few years ago based on the looks of the movie.
I have to wonder did generations before us see all their childhood memories come back? I mean you got Gi Joe the movie, transformers, tron, indiana jones come back movie, and all other things that seem to be from our childhoods.
Is this common or has hollywood just given up on being creative and chasing the quick and easy nostalgic buck?

I’ve read that re-makes and sequels are the “easiest” way to go. This is because I guess it’s really hard to get audiences to buy into a “new” movie that is un-tested. It cost a lot more to market a new movie from scratch.
Also, with all the remakes from movies in the 80’s, they are definitely targeting you. We’re older now, have more expendable income, and many children of the 80’s have children of their own that they can get hooked on the newer versions.
Damn marketing people…

They really did not have as many kids movies when our parents where kids. Disney was big but instead of remakes they just re-released them. I remember seeing many disney movies from the 60’s in the theatre with my parents. To go even deeper, most of the Disney classic movies are based from ancient fairy tales that kids have been loving for generations. It is really cool that new stories that were developed during our childhood in a sense are becomine classis. Maybe someday our kids, kids, kids will be watching and playing with GI Joe.

I can’t wait to see this, Tron was the first “non-cartoon” movie I saw (3rd grade)…our entire class got to go see it…I’ve watched it many times; the story and (IMO) the graphics are still cool…the fact that they are bring back Jeff Bridges to reprise his role is awesome as well…
Is this 09′ or 10′???

According to IMDB.com, the movie isn’t due out until 2011…
That seems pretty far away. Maybe the special effects are going to take a few years to get strait.
Long time to wait

Perhaps they are waiting for a healthy economy to make the movie.

If you ask a republican we’re all doomed anyway. Might as well not even start the movie.
