The Day the Earth Stood Still – Movie Review
3.9/5.0
This remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film, about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth, is an intense sci-fi thriller that has some common land mines that keep it from being a great movie. The special effects, acting, story and originality are all driving factors of why you should see this movie in the theatre.
The special effects are outstanding. Watching the New York Giants stadium get swallowed up in a swarm of evil was amazing. I also enjoyed the evil robot in action, who just 10 years ago would have looked like a cheap video game.
The acting, story and originality all do not take away from the experience and for a movie like this, that is all I can ask for. Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connely do a good job. The story kept me interested and other than one major flaw at the end I liked it. The originality was impressive in how the robot evolves which completely caught me by surprize and is something that I have never seen before.
The movie had two major flaws. The first is the whiny kid which was the pefect omage to the Tom Cruise’s son character in War of the Worlds. Both these characters in these two movies almost completely ruined the movie for me. I mean come on… the world is ending and the last thing I want to think about is a whiny kid with Daddy issues. The second major flaw is an abrubt ending. With out any spoilers, I will just say it was abrubt and the complete opposite of Return of the King.
All in all this was a fun Sunday afternoon popcorn movie.

Cool. I’m pretty excited about seeing this one. Anything scifi pretty much gets my full attention…
I notice you don’t mention keanu reeves. I’m assuming because he does what keanu does so well…act like he’s still in Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure. “Woooooh!”
By the way, I had heard that he was interested in doing another sequal to that series. That would be BOGUS.

Yeah, I suppose it is all about your expectations. It is no surprise to me that people were disapointed about this movie.
