Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the third movie in Underworld series, which starred Kate Beckinsale as a vampire heroine fighting against Lycans (werewolves). However, for those of you who aren’t familiar, the second one (Underworld: Evolution) ended in such a way that it really didn’t make sense to keep moving forward with the story….so what does Hollywood do? They make a pre-qual.
Replacing the lead “chick” in the Underworld series is Rhona Mitra. She is not replacing Kate Bechinsale’s character (who appears to either have been written out or passed on the thrid film). Rather, it looks like she actually plays Sonja, the vampire daughter of Viktor – one of the lead vampires in the series.
Rhona Mitra first hit my radar in the mad max – style action flick - Doomsday which just hit DVD a few months ago. Doomsday was pretty awesome, and aside from proving that she has what it takes to be an action star, Rhona Mitra has to be one of the hottest women in Hollywood right now.
Anyway, enough about Miss Rhona Mitra. A little on the film now.
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans Synopsis:
An origins story centered on the centuries-old feud between the the race of aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers, and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
According to IMDB, the movie is slated for release on January 23rd.
The trailer looks pretty bad ass.
