If All Goes Wrong traces the Smashing Pumpkins through their 19 show residency, starting in Asheville, NC and finishing at the historic Fillmore in San Fransisco in 2007. The film sets-out to capture what all goes into performing and writing new songs everyday in residencies, combined with what the band is going through in their return after being broken up for 7 years.

The documentary does an outstanding job getting into the nitty-gritty of this experience. The extraordinary challenge of Billy Corgan writing a song, in which he would perform at the show the same evening, presents the life-line of the film. The geniune musical vibe resulting is pure, and a shining glimmer of hope in the celebrity infested Nickleback music industry. Unfortunately, our “i-tunes” music industry has infested many of us. The social experiment that If All Goes Wrong exemplifies is that music can be real and it can help people give more geniune meaning to their lives. A “we are all in this together”, statement, “so lets make the best of it”. Billy Corgan is able to create some amazing music from this experience, highlighted by the self-portrait like ballad, The Rose March.

You do not have to be a pumpkin head aka “The Ghost Children” to appreciate this documentary. However, you must be willing to ask yourself the question that when all does go wrong, where does that leave us?
