Stick, skateboard, Baby Doll enter Toy Hall of Fame
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) – A magic wand, a fishing rod or a royal scepter?

Chris Bensch, curator of collections, shows off the newest inductees into the Toy Hall of Fame, a stick.
The lowly stick, a universal plaything powered by a child’s imagination, landed in the National Toy Hall of Fame on Thursday along with the Baby Doll and the skateboard.
The three were chosen to join the Strong National Museum of Play’s lineup of 38 classics ranging from the bicycle, the kite and Mr. Potato Head to Crayola crayons, marbles and the Atari 2600 video game system.
Curators said the stick was a special addition in the spirit of a 2005 inductee, the cardboard box. They praised its all-purpose, no-cost, recreational qualities, noting its ability to serve either as raw material or an appendage transformed in myriad ways by a child’s creativity.
“It’s very open-ended, all-natural, the perfect price — there aren’t any rules or instructions for its use,” said Christopher Bensch, the museum’s curator of collections. “It can be a Wild West horse, a medieval knight’s sword, a boat on a stream or a slingshot with a rubber band. … No snowman is complete without a couple of stick arms, and every campfire needs a stick for toasting marshmallows.
“This toy is so fantastic that it’s not just for humans anymore. You can find otters, chimps and dogs — especially dogs — playing with it.”
Each toy must not only be widely recognized and foster learning, creativity or discovery through play, but also endure in popularity over generations.
Well, I guess the wait is finally over… the “stick” has finally gotten the recognition it deserves. Long have we waitied for this pillar of awesomeness to finally earn it’s place in line at the Toy Hall of Fame. Some thought that nothing would ever top the Cardboard Box (2005 inductee), but alas, greatness has been achieved and we can all sleep easy now. Long live Stick!!!

This report disturbs me. I can’t believe that the “rock” has been snubbed once again by these idiots. As a lifelong “rock” supporter, I plan on boycotting the Toy Hall of Fame until it deserves the proper recognition it deserves.

…”receives the proper recognition it deserves.” Sorry I missed that. I guess I got hit in the head by the “rock” a few too many times while playing.

I’m with Scruffd0g on this because the first thing that came to mind for me was the dirt ball. I mean we used to have some bad ass dirt ball wars back in the day solid dirt “rocks” tossed like grenades.
None of that using a stick for a fake gun bullshit.
“I shot you”
“no you didn’t”
Real kids played with dirt and rocks.
“I hit you in the head with that rock”
………(no response friend is out cold)
“Yep I got him”
Or
“I hit you in the head with my dirt bomb”
“No you didn’t”
“Yeah i did bitch you got dirt in your hair!”

Good call on the dirt. I used to spend hours with my firends at the ball park while my brother played baseball (we were too young to play at the time) and all we did was go to the big pile of dirt they used to fill in the infield and throw dirt grenades at each other (and innocent passer-byes, but every war has its civilian casualties).
