I’m not sure if you’ve seen this, but Jack Cashill is currently on a mission to spread the word that the author of the Dreams From My Father (DFMF), a book Time magazine called “the best-written memoir ever produced by an American politician,” was probably NOT Barack Obama.
In an article on WND.com, Cashill cites examples that he believes prove that Obama didn’t compose the words in this book, and that the words were most likely composed by the recently re-infamous US terrorist Bill Ayers.
Cashill agrees that DFMF is a wonderfully written book, but has researched the writings of Obama, noting that neither his pre-DFMF nor post-DFMF writings are anywhere near the writing level of his best seller. He basically says that Obama is at best a hack, while DFMF is just too good to come from the presidential candidate.
Cashill also points to the relationship between Ayers and Obama, a relationship Cashill says was definately closer than just that of a guy that lives in Obama’s neighborhood, and examines the writing style of Ayers and that in DFMF. Cashill’s determination: that Ayers’ wrting is extremely close to that of DFMF.
You read the entire Cashill article linked above if you want to see the specific passages Cashill compares.
How does this play into the Obama candidacy? I’m not sure that it really will. Most of the mainstream media probably won’t pick up on Cashill’s story. Honestly, I don’t really care about whether or not Obama actually wrote the book, but this does strike a chord with me regarding Obama’s character. Cashill’s research at the least sheds more light on the controversial relationships Obama cultivated on his way to the presidential candidacy. It proves that Obama and Ayers were indeed close friends — Cashill states that Ayers was more of a “father figure” to Obama, and also ties Obama to other radicals in the Chicago area. It reminds me of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. Sometimes it’s not necessarily the weight of the act or lie that’s important. It’s that someone in a position of political power, a position that demands trust from the people, could look the American public in the eye and lie to them. It’s the same feeling most people get when they hear Cheney open his mouth.
