Uber-Geeks Revolt over “Fanboys” Movie Release

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Members of a Star Wars fan group, calling themselves the 501st, organized a so-called protest this weekend.  The group targeted a number of movie theaters across the US and picketed dressed in Star Wars clothing….

What are these Uber-Geeks protesting may you ask?

They are upset about the editing changes to an upcoming Weinstein Co. comedy inspired by the sci-fi franchise. The movie is called Fanboys and is about four diehard “Star Wars” fans who try to break into George Lucas‘ Skywalker Ranch in order to see “The Phantom Menace” on the eve of its release.

Evidently the movie was re-cut to get rid of a cancer sub-plot.  Probably a good move for a comedy.

Weinstein said last week that it will release the two versions on DVD, and a studio source later said that is exploring two theatrical versions.  Guess that didn’t make these fans too happy.

The 501st claims that they had people all over the US protesting, but reports from the theaters that they claim to have been picketing outside of are reporting that 1 maybe 2 people actually showed up in most places.

This is the trailer for the movie.  (It actually looks pretty funny….if you are a Geek like me :) )

Get OFF the Bus

Friday, March 28th, 2008

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A Henry County man says he’s been kicked off the county’s transit system because he’s overweight.

David Washington, 65, has been confined to a wheelchair following an infection after knee replacement surgery. Side effects from pain medications keep him from driving so he’s been using county buses for trips to the doctors and other errands. “I have no other way of getting there, other than using the Henry transit,” Washington told WSB-TV Channel 2 consumer investigator Jim Strickland. Last week the transit bus took a side trip to a scale at the local recycling center; weighing the bus with and without Washington aboard. Days later came word the county was suspending his service. Washington and his wheelchair exceed a 600 pound weight limit. “I’ve been using that service for 5 years without a single incident,” said Washington. “So why all of a sudden are they denying me services?” Henry County transit officials told WSB’s Strickland that Washington and his wheelchair were putting a strain on hydraulic systems used to lift him onto the bus. “Our utmost priority is assuring the safety of the passengers and when they exceed that standard we can no longer assure that safety,” said Julie Hoover Ernst, the Henry County communications director.

You gotta love how they drove him to a truck weighing scale in order to put a number on this guy’s poundage.  If a conventional scale found in any household is incapable of producing a result….I think the warning signs are up.  How embarassing is it when someone says “okay, now you get off so that we can weigh the bus”.

*side note*– they confirmed that there was a total of 680 pounds between man and wheelchair.  Crazy.

Sweet Black Magic

Friday, March 28th, 2008

NEW DELHI, India (CNN) — An Indian woman accused of being a witch was tied to a tree and beaten by a mob, with television footage of the incident aired in India on Friday.

Villagers tied the woman to a tree after a man accused her of practicing black magic.

Nishant Tiwari, a police official in northeastern India, said a journalist who filmed the beating called him Thursday to report the incident, which took place in the village of Dumaria in central eastern Bihar state.

He arrived to find the woman tied to a tree, her hair partially cut and her complexion ruddy from being being slapped. She had no serious injuries.

“I was appalled at what I saw because people should be more socially responsible than to do this,” Tiwari said.

Authorities arrested six people, including the man who admitted to hiring her services as a witch. They were due to appear before a magistrate on Friday.

Ram Ayodhya, who could face up to seven years in prison for his role in the attack, told police he was justified in beating the woman, Tiwari said.

Ayodhya said he paid her to use magic and prayer to improve his wife’s health.

When his wife’s condition deteriorated, Ayodhya accused her of performing black magic, Tiwari said, and a crowd soon gathered and tied her to the tree.

The woman seen being attacked is expected to testify when the suspects appear before the magistrate.

I’m not sure what this guy expected when he hired this lady.  It’s witchcraft…after decades of existence the only people getting that shit right are those hot chicks from the show “Charmed”.  I mean, how did he expect this shit to work 100% in his favor.  Nevertheless, this happened in India…same place that the below video took place.

joys of travel

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

I’m sitting here, bored to death, at o’hare airport in chicago. Not entirely sure what to blog about, but anything to make time go by just a little faster will help.

There is an asian guy sitting across from me who smells like fish. I’d move but the terminal is full.

The way the day is going, there is an absolute certainty that the fat guy with no concept of personal space is going to run on the plane at the last minute (just after I start thinking that I’m going to get a row to myself) and plop his big sweaty ass right next to me.

I’ll spend three hours uncomfortably wrestling with whether or not I should politelly ask him to get his fucking elbows out of my chest.

The airline just announced that our flight is running 30 min late. The asian guy that smells like fish just said some sort of curse word in his native tongue.

I’m going to go grab a beer. Anything to get away from the fish smell…

IJ4 - The Return of Cinema Magic?

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

With the return of one of Hollywood’s greatest heroes of all time this May, can we expect the return of the same cinema magic that was captured in the 80’s with the original films? These original master-pieces had it all: action adventure, heart, comedy, romance, amazing directing, a great soundtrack and excellent characters. Can an aged Indiana really bring the believability that is required as an action hero at his age? Will new-comer Shia Lebeuff bring the same charisma and charm that he had in Transformers? Will Kate Blanchet be believable as a female nemesis to Indiana? So many questions that will prevent me from building up my expectations too high to ruin this movie. All-in-all, with out a doubt this will be a fun and familiar movie and I am very, very excited about it. Dum, da, da, Dum… Dum, da, da, Dum.

GI Joe the Movie - Snake Eyes Pictures

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

These are the first-look pictures for Snake Eyes in the Upcoming live action GI Joe movie set for release in 2009.

I’m glad that they are sticking to making the characters look like they did in the comic and cartoon.  I was afraid that I wouldn’t recognize any of the costumes.  by making sure that Snake Eyes looks the way he should, we can probably assume that the rest will be safe.

The Death of the Full-Length Album

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

The future of music is heading towards its past. With digital downloads gaining in popularity every year, more and more people purchase fewer albums and purchase more single songs on the internet. There are many debates over this subject that revolve around the “what came first the chicken or the egg”. Did musicians as a whole stop making great albums which ultimately led people to only want the two or three songs that were good, or did people’s short-attention span stop giving albums enough of a listen to really get the other non-accessible songs? I believe it is a combination of both, but regardless the full length album will eventually take the way of the dinosaurs.

When musicians first started recording music for distribution they would record 2-3 songs and send them to a radio station, i.e. Elvis and etc. Two of my favorite bands, The Smashing Pumpkins and Muse, have recently announced they will no longer release albums but release 2-3 songs at a time on the internet. It is where the past meets the future and very interesting how things tend to go in cycles.

This is bitter sweet for me since I believe my favorite albums are great because they captured a theme or a general feeling of a moment in time. These 2-3 songs released will in no way have the same impact as a full length album, but it will ultimately result in more releases through out a 2 year period. Generally a band will release one album every two years and would probably release 2-3 song blocks every couple of months, which is typically a net gain in songs.

So at the end of the day we lose some and gain some. Ultimately, I want more great music and I am excited about what the future will bring as the music industry continues to evolve.

Zombie Strippers - The Movie…

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Zombie Strippers the Movie Plot:  In the not too distant future a secret government re-animation chemo-virus gets released into conservative Sartre, Nebraska and lands in an underground strip club. As the virus begins to spread, turning the strippers into “Super Zombie Strippers” the girls struggle with whether or not to conform to the new “fad” even if it means there’s no turning back.

Yes.  This is for real.  They have made a movie about strippers that turn into zombies, then continue to strip as “super zombie strippers.”

Zombie Strippers has some great “stars” in it.  First, we have Robert Englund, best known as Freddy Kruger in the Nightmare on Elmstreet movies.  Then we have Jenna Jameson, best known for her work in the adult film industry.   Other movies that Jenna has been in include great hits like Please Cum Inside Me,  Blown Away and Cum one, Cum All.  For a complete list of Jenna’s movies, click here

I always thought that, as a father, you have done a good job with your daughter if you are able to keep her off the pole.

I must revise that thought.  Now, I think, as a father,  you have done a good job with your daughter if you are able to keep her off the pole….and from even thinking of becoming a zombie because it is cool and helps her strip better to make more tips….

Sadly, I’ll wind up seeing this abomination of a movie.  The comedy potential is way toooooo high.
