You Can’t Be 20 on Pancake Mountain

Well i guess you probably should not be a much of a teen on Pancake Mountain either! For those of you who got the Neil Young reference in the title kudos to you! I came across Pancake Mountain this morning by way of this very cool article on portfolio.com The article has a lot of great info about the Pancake Mountain and Rufus its star pictured above.
If you are like me you probably have never heard of it even though it airs in Atlanta on PBS. It is a Sesame Street like program that is geared towards getting kids listening to good music. They are based in Washington DC and have their “dance parties” at the infamous 9:30 club. They invite kids over the age of 5 to the show and have bands stop by to play a song or act out a skit for the kids. Some bands that have been involved in the past are: flaming lips, MIA, built to spill, white stripes, ted leo, arcade fire, tegan & sara, and many others.
Check out Doug from Built to Spill helping kids understand why it is bad to eat too much junk food:
Here is Jenny Lewis leading one of the dance parties:
This is a really cool idea for kids. I can only wonder how long before the pioneers of Dad Rock Wilco will want to get involved!

I heard that Rufus the sheep puppet has retired.
Evidently he has been seen using smack and frequenting local whore houses. Rufus’ problems began when the shows producers started adding a potent mix of heroin and cocaine to his morning snack. To Rufus, the once round and perfect pancakes started to look something like this:
As a result, his world began to shatter and he took to the streets a broken and tired puppet. I heard that he was up for a part in the sequal to Meet the Feebles.

Nice pancake metaphor.
I like the idea of introducing kids to cool music. There is actually somthing out in the market place called Rockabye Baby which is introducing kids to cool rock music as well. See the amazon page link below for the SP version…

Very Cool idea… my future kids will be introduced to cool music at a very young age. When their friends are humming “who is that doggy in the window” my kid will be humming “Cherub Rock”.

That Rockabye Baby is pretty cool i have never seen that before. I could only hope that if i had a kid while all the other little boys and girls are banging out cute little beats on their toy drum that my kid would be laying down blast beats that would make Flo from Cryptopsy jealous and doing fills that brann from mastodon could only dream of.
