Mens Health released their official “Drunkest Cities” report.
The report research is based off of:
- Death rates due to alcoholic liver disease
- Who’s headed there by regularly downing five or more drinks in a sitting (CDC).
- Drunk-driving arrests (FBI)
- Percentage of fatal accidents involving intoxicated motorists (U.S. Department of Transportation).
- MADD report card of state efforts to cut down on excessive drinking
I have listed the top 2 and the bottom 2 below:
Most Drunken Cities:
100 Denver, CO
99 Anchorage, AK
Least Drunken Cities:
2 Miami, FL
1 Durham, NC

Denver - If Atlanta, ranked as the 12th least drunken city, had distribution of the Belgium style Fat Tire Beer we would have given them a run for their money.
Anchorage - Big shocker….what the hell else is there to do besides suck snow and wrestle cola drinking polar bears ?
Miami- They screwed something up…either that or there is a cover up going on. Isn’t Miami where some of the biggest clubs and most dangerous drug king pins are. You telling me Latinos don’t drink?
Durham - UNC has one of the best MBA programs in America….now we know why. This city sucks - very few bars, full of research triangle geeks.

I could have guessed Denver it is a virtual micro brew capital of the US.
i’m am embarrassed that the city i live in places so low on the list. I guess we will all have to man up a little bit and give the city a better impression next time around.
I did notice one of my old stomping grounds Columbia came in fairly high. I’m sure my imprint from days gone by helped to build them up. I spent 4 years there and i’ve been in Atlanta 4 years now. Unfortunately i just don’t drink like i used to.

Columbia SC In the House!!! Er..wait a minute…
Cola, SC stumbled in at #87 most drunken city. Why am I not suprised that SC is close to the top of this list….almost twice as drunk as Las Vegas (#47). Seems like we are always on the bad end of lists (see education).
Don’t worry you atlanta people. You may not be the drunkest, but you do top in as the 3rd worst Metro area in terms of Debt. Funny, you’d think that people that far in debt would drink away their problems…but perhaps that’s your problem. Too much debt = can’t afford the booze.
